Christopher Steele is based in England and has performed extensively in opera, oratorio and concert throughout the United Kingdom, Ireland, France and Holland and has performed as a principal artist for WNO, ENO and the Royal Opera House. He is noted in the press for possessing a fine, clear voice, excellent diction and strong stage presence.
Attending the opera course of the Royal College of Music (as an ABRSM scholar) and National Opera Studio (sponsored by ENO and the Bowerman Musical Trust) he has participated in masterclasses with such noted artists as Dennis O'Neill, Philip Langridge, Robert Tear, Anthony Rolfe Johnson, Ryland Davies, Sir Thomas Allen and Sarah Walker and was a Samling Foundation Scholar in 2001.
Operatic roles performed include; Rodolfo La Boheme, Nadir Pearl Fishers, Tamino Die Zauberflote, Ramiro La Cenerentola, Hoffman Tales of Hoffman, Lensky Eugene Onegin, Almaviva Barbiere di Siviglia, Ottavio Don Giovanni, Tamino Die Zauberflöte, Prologue/Quint Turn of the Screw, Male Chorus Rape of Lucrezia, Tom The Rakes Progress, Lurcanio Handel's Ariodante, Brighella Ariadne auf Naxos, Cegeste Glass' Orfee. Liverotto in Lucrezia Borgia.
Oratorio highlights include; The Messiah in Festival Hall and Bridgewater Hall and with Brian Kay in Halle; The Creation in the RAH with Sir David Willcocks; Bach's St John and St Matthew Passions; Mozart Requiem, Mass in C minor and Coronation Mass; Verdi's Requiem Mass; Finzi's Dies Natalis and Intimations of Immortality, Britten's St Nicolas.
Recent and forthcoming engagements include;Nadir in The Pearl Fishers for ENO; Tenor Soloist Chilcott Requiem, Verdi Requiem; multiple roles in Opera North's British Premiere of 'The Portrait' by Weinberg; Opera Galas with the Vietnam National Opera and the Shanghai Opera and Ballet Orchestra.
